Boxing superstar Adrien Broner who was nominated the next Floyd Mayweather lost a unanimous decision to challenger Marcos Maidana in his first title defense. Maidana came in strong in the first part of the fight flooring Broner for the first time in his career in the second round. Broner showed heart and came back later in the fight. In the eight Maidana floored Broner again and while in clinch head butted Broner losing a point on the scorecard. At the end of the fight the scores were 115-110, 116-109, 117-109 all in favor of Maidana.

Broner who was built up to be boxing’s next superstar takes a big step back with this lost. Entertaining fight but it was only Broner’s first title defense and being labeled the next Mayweather an early defeat diminishes his brand in the public’s eye. The young fighter can comeback but his marketability has taken a hard hit. Truth be told Maidana is tough fighter but there are tougher and more skilled fighters in this divisions will Broner comeback and get past them. We will see if and when he comes back but right Maidana is driving the seat and the public waits to see what he does next.
