Amber Rose’s Family Members Skipped Out on Wedding to Wiz Khalifa Because He’s Black

In an upcoming documentary titled Light Girls, Amber Rose recently opened up about her family’s decision to skip out on her wedding to rapper Wiz Khalifa because he is a Black man.

When the couple first got together, their fans felt like the duo were perfect for each other.

Both Amber and Wiz Khalifa had no problem embracing their quirky relationship full of head-licking and over-the-top red carpet smooches.

In the new documentary, however, Rose revealed that many people from her own family were never supportive of her relationship.

According to Rose, several members of her family refused to attend her wedding because her husband-to-be was Black.

Rose and the hip hop star have since separated, but she says the racism in her family is something she still has to deal with.

“With my family, they feel like they’re more superior or better than African American because we’re Creole and we have culture, and that’s something I battle with most of my life,” she says in the documentary, as reported by BET.

Rose is Creole, Portuguese and Italian.

She explained that it is a common occurrence with her older relatives and she even believes that’s the real reason her mother married a white man.

“It’s more of the older people in my family,” she said. “I feel like that’s why my father is white.”

Rose said she tries not to sound bitter or angry when discussing her family but that’s a hard feat considering the fact that she is actually hurt and angry.

“It’s such a sensitive subject that it’s hard to explain yourself without sounding mean or bitter or angry, but I am,” Rose said. “I’m angry that my family is like that and they want to pass so bad that they raise my mom and my uncles and my aunts to not fully know their culture.”

She says the one upside to her family dynamics is that the younger generation is not letting the racist attitudes affect them.

“Our younger generation, we’ve embraced it so much,” she said.

With her family’s harsh attitude towards African-Americans, it isn’t clear whether or not they have been supportive of Rose’s bi-racial baby boy.

The documentary from Bill Duke, the same man responsible for Dark Girls, will air on OWN.
