This week the title of number one movie goes to Think Like a Man which opened up at thirty three million. A big accomplishment for the movie based on the Steve Harvey book, not only did it do better than expected but it knocked out the dominant movie of the season the The Hunger Games. Think Like a Man is an ensemble cast but the main actor featured in the marketing campaign was funny man Kevin Hart. Kevin Hart last year released his on-stage comic movie Laugh at My Pain and now this year once again will see him star in another successful movie. While there has never been an abundance of African American movie releases in the past, this year to date you can mark Denezel Washington’s Safe House (many people might argue this a commercial movie) and Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, as the only releases for the African American audience.

So this week African American audiences were hungry for something to see. On a side note the T.D. Jakes film Women Thou Art Loosed: On the 7th Day opened up last week to $600,000 and was the country’s fourteenth most watch movie which is great for an independent. This movie stars Sharon Leal and Blair Underwood and is directed by Neema Barnette.
