Pacman wants Floyd but…

Manny Pacquiao said on Saturday that he was delighted that
Floyd Mayweather has been allowed to postpone his 90-day
prison term, telling Fightnews and Manila Bulletin that a
matchup with the undefeated American “is a better match.”
Coming a few days before Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum
visits Manila to discuss Pacquiao’s next fight, Mayweather
was permitted to defer his prison sentence so he can
fulfill his obligations to fight on May 5 in Las Vegas.
Arum will have four proposals that he will present to
Pacquiao next week and among those being eyed for his
much-awaited return to the ring are Juan Manuel Marquez,
Tim Bradley, Lamont Peterson and Miguel Cotto.
Now that Mayweather seems to be available, Pacquiao will
raise the matter with Arum once they meet.
This latest development on Mayweather doesn’t actually
guarantee that a proposed super showdown between the two
claimants to the mythical title of pound-for-pound king can
be easily made.
Even if Pacquiao has already agreed to two of Mayweather’s
demands–Olympic-style testing and the smaller piece of the
pie–Pacquiao said everything would still boil down to the
negotiations.
“We’ll see if we can agree,” said Pacquiao from his native
General Santos City.
Arum was surprised by the decision to favor Mayweather and
the 80-year-old boxing figure cautioned everyone that it
doesn’t mean that all roads lead to a Pacquiao-Mayweather
duel on May 5.
There are several factors to consider according to Arum and
one of them is the venue.
Mayweather is contracted to fight at the MGM Grand which
can only sit 18,000 and Arum wants it to be held in a
larger site.
A few weeks ago, Arum had revealed that a 40,000-capacity
stadium can be put up on the Las Vegas strip to host the
fight.
Reports from the US say that Mayweather is targeting a
fight with Robert Guerrero or Saul Alvarez.
